Qatar Auto Museum Takes Part in The Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar 2023

The participation includes a unique car display, a cars-in-containers installation, and an engaging forum discussion with key industry leaders

Qatar Auto Museum (QAM) is pleased to announce its participation in The Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar (GIMS Qatar), set to take place in Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) from 07 – 14 October 2023. Hosted by a pioneering and committed nation with a genuine passion for cars, GIMS Qatar 2023 is set to deliver a spectacular festival experience showcasing the best of the automotive industry.

As part of the international show, QAM will display at the GIMS Qatar main exhibition hall for the duration of the show. the concept design for a new museum that will bring Qatar’s expanding car community under one roof, and will feature two unique 1957 Ferrari 250 GT LWB and 1965 Mercer-Cobra Roadster. The unique cars are from QAM’s future collection, and will be displayed in the museum.

QAM will also emphasize its participatory and community component through its cars-in-containers display in collaboration with the Sealine Sport Club (Mawater). This display will take place in two locations, with the 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing and 1972 Chevrolet Corvette outside DECC and the 1990 Ford Bronco XLT and 1995 Toyota Celica GT-4 at the Urban Hub in Lusail. The cars are loaned from the Advisory Board Members and the Sealine Sport Club (Mawater).

QAM is also partnering with GIMS Qatar, Car Design News and Visit Qatar, for organizing and hosting “the Future Design Forum,” which will take place at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) on 09 October. The Forum will bring global visionaries to discuss the future of automotive design. The forum will present the exclusive unveiling of the QAM & VCUArts Qatar project with Marcello Gandini, is one of the world’s most influential automotive designers. Gandini has designed the automobiles that defined the late 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, even the 1990s. His portfolio includes iconic cars like Lamborghini Miura, Maserati Quattroporte IV, Innocenti Mini, Cizeta V16T, first-generation BMW 5 Series, Audi 50/VW Polo, Fiat X1/9, Lamborghini Countach and Diablo, Lancia Stratos, and many others.

The Forum will present Frank Stephenson as keynote speaker and will include two panel discussions on Re-thinking Luxury and The Future of Supercars, with the participation of industry leaders: James McLachlan, Editor in Car Design News; Felix Kilbertus, Chief Creative Officer in Pininfarina; Young Kwang Nam (YK), Lead Designer in Bentley Motors; Sasha Selipanov, Founder and Head of Design at Hardline27 LLC;, Daniel Darancou, Vice President of Design in Qiantu EV and Guy Burgoyne, former Design Director of Geely China.

H.E. Dr Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, President of Qatar Auto Museum, commented on the occasion saying: “We are very happy to support the first edition of Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar. The future QAM will be located along the Lusail Express Way between the 5/6 Park and Katara Cultural Village, in the former exhibition center building that hosted the first Qatar Motor Show in 2011. Qatar Museums is working with the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) on designs to transform the building, which is designed by OAM and led by Pritzker Architecture Prize winning architect Rem Koolhaas.
