The Arabian Gulf is home to the second largest concentration of dugongs in the world after Australia. Within the Gulf, the largest concentration of these animals was recently recorded in the waters of Qatar, where one herd included as many as 800 dugongs.
To celebrate the cultural and environmental importance of dugongs, the National Museum of Qatar, in cooperation with ExxonMobil Research Qatar, organized Seagrass Tales, Dugong Trails, a special and wide-ranging exhibition on these gentle and mysterious creatures who have lived in Qatari waters for more than 7,500 years.
This video offers an engaging introduction to dugongs, their habitat, history and the dangers surrounding them, featuring specialists and researchers in the field. It also provides an overview of Seagrass Tales, Dugong Trails, which was presented at the National Museum of Qatar 10 June through 1 September 2021.
